Seaview/Ocean Bay Park Garbage District

Regulations for Disposal of Garbage and Trash:

Garbage Cans

All should be labeled in 3 in. letters with the address and property owner’s name. The District Ordinance requires that all refuse be stored “…in a container which will completely confine the material and which will be rodent and insect proof…” The first violation of the Ordinance carries a penalty of up to $500.00. Secure lids and bungee cords will help make cans animal proof. Placement of cans in secure bins is suggested. You may be charged with a violation of the District Ordinance for failure to comply.

Non-Recyclables

Up to 6 cans per collection, no larger than 32 gal. each. Homeowners will be charged for cans in excess of the 6 permitted per collection.

Recyclables

Place tin and beverage cans, license plates, glass bottles (without lids), number 1 & 2 plastic containers that hold soda, detergent, shampoo, milk, or water into Islip WRAP can, or any other suitably labeled 20 gal. can. Please do not bag the contents of these cans.

Place paper and corrugated cardboard, paper-bagged, or bundled with string, into Brookhaven CURBY can, or any other suitably labeled 20 gal. can. Please do not use plastic bags.

Spring and Fall Clean-up Days

This year’s Clean-up days fall on Monday, May 16th and Tuesday, October 11th. Bulk items (furniture, bedding, appliances), plus smaller items (sheets, towels, clothes, etc.) in bags or boxes will be collected. Put them out at the end of the weekend. Each property is entitled to 2 bulk items and 8 bags of household cleanout items.

Garbage and trash for collection should be placed beside, but not in, the public walkway. Nothing should ever be taken directly to the District property on Bayview Walk. Material placed on walks, roadways, and at the District property interferes with ambulance, fire, garbage collection, and utility services. Household wastes should not be placed in or beside community trash containers.

Garbage and recycling are collected by the Seaview/Ocean Bay Park Garbage District. The Garbage District is presided over by five elected Commissioners (who receive no compensation). The District contracts with a private company to collect trash and recycling, transport it across the bay, and dispose of it safely and responsibly; the current contractor is Stang Carting.

For questions about your regular collection or schedule bulk collection, please contact Stang Carting at 631-567-7792.

To report a violation and for any other garbage-related matter, please contact the District at 631-694-2400.
